Decluttering is the process of removing the physical things in your life, home or office that don’t have a purpose, bring joy, or add value to your life. It’s anything that’s no longer used or useful - broken, worn out, don't fit, not played with, or doesn't suit you or your lifestyle anymore.
Home Staging is all about preparing your home for sale or letting. It can range from decluttering before putting your home up for sale, pre photography staging to ensure your home looks its best in marketing material, or if you’re not getting the viewings.
Hi, my name’s Liz and I started The Home Sorter as I have a passion for creating organised spaces and staging property to look its best.
I believe living in a clutter-free space has a powerful positive impact on our physical and mental wellbeing.
Having bought and sold numerous homes I’ve developed a real eye for staging them to look their best, inside and out, for prospective buyers.
I’m naturally well-organised, logical, and good at planning. I’m also a good listener. I provide a friendly, professional and confidential service.
If you don’t know where or how to start decluttering and organising your home or office or want your home to stand out for buyers, let us help you.
Moving home or needing to clear a home when downsizing, or after a bereavement, those with no spare time to organise their home, wardrobe, paperwork, or photos, and those who just don't know where to start! Anyone in fact, who has clutter in their life.
Many people hire a cleaner, a gardener or someone to iron if you don't like these chores or feel you don't do them well, and it’s becoming more common to hire a professional to help organise your home.
This is where we come in.
We can declutter anything you want:
Or the whole house if you prefer!
We can also help with home admin, office admin, organising your photos and digital decluttering.
The goal is to reduce the number of possessions in your home, so you can easily see and enjoy the items you have, so decluttering can be emotionally and physically tiring. We’ll work together at a pace you feel comfortable.
The decluttering process involves helping you to decide what you keep and what is discarded, sent to a charity, stored for seasonal use, recycled, or sold. You make all the decisions and we can help guide and support you in this.
But a well-organised space doesn’t need to be sterile or minimalist. It’s about finding the balance that works for you, between possessions that make your home feel comfortable and loved, but manageable.
We'll help rearrange, reorganise, and create more space and systems in your home that work for you and your family.
We'll share our tips and tools for simple and sustainable routines. Our aim is to set you up for the long-term, keeping a clutter-free home or workspace.
Once you’re happy this is what you want to do, contact us to arrange a free 15-minute consultation, by phone or video call.
It might be just a general declutter through the house, or a specific area that you want to focus on.
We can help you put in place storage systems in your kitchen / pantry that means you can see all the food items you have, and be sure they are in date, saving you money by reducing your food waste too.
If you’ve always thought about using the spare bedroom as an office or hobby / craft room, let us help you clear that space so you can put it to good use.
If your wardrobe is full but you wear the same few outfits or aren’t sure how many pairs of black trousers you really have, this could be the help you need. Get ready for spring and summer with a declutter so you know what items you might really need to buy for that summer holiday (and don’t buy another pair of black trousers).
Only keep the clothes you love and that make you look and feel great. Give them space to hang properly and not look creased straight after being laundered.
Wardrobe, drawers, and shelves can all be sorted and organised so you can easily see your clothes.
Moving house can be an exciting change, or overwhelming, especially when downsizing.
At the earliest stage, declutter to achieve the best possible photos to show your home at its best to prospective buyers when you’ve decided to put it on the market (see Home Staging).
When you’re getting ready to move it's the ideal time to go through every cupboard and drawer to see what you have, and what you really want to move into your new home. We can help so you only take the things you need and love with you. Why pay to move items you no longer need or use?
Once you’re in your new home we can help with the unpacking and organising of your belongings. If you’ve still got unpacked boxes from that last move, let us help you review your belongings to see if you still need them before you move them again!
We do not provide a removals service, or with packing ahead of the move.
Downsizing into smaller accommodation or making the difficult decision to move into residential care, is a very emotional and stressful process.
It can feel like getting rid of a lifetime of treasured possessions, and sometimes bringing in someone who can be a little more objective, can help take away some of the stress.
We can help with every step of the way, including:
Going through the possessions of a loved one following bereavement is a very emotional process and takes time. Dealing with a whole house on top of a bereavement can seem like a daunting task, but we can help you sort through this, deciding with you what you wish to keep, and what should be donated, discarded or sold, especially if a house clearance service may not be the right thing at this stage.
We understand that families often live at a distance and are busy during the week. We can work alone or with the client to decide what items should be kept, donated, sold or discarded, then leave these clearly labelled so family members can review and agree this at their convenience. We will agree at the start how you wish to work, so we have a plan for us to follow and we can keep in regular contact by phone, email or video call.
We can arrange and be at your home for charity collections, house clearance, auction house collections, estate agents etc.
We can also then help stage the house ready for sale to attract the most buyers (see Home Staging).
Bereavement generates a lot of paperwork. This can range from notifying organisations of the death of a loved one, to finding those key bits of paper with policy numbers or identifying which bank accounts are still open. We can help with the administration.
If the paperwork’s piling up and you can never find what you need, or have lost documents, let us help you review and sort through your papers, identify what doesn’t need to be kept and confidentially dispose of non-essential papers.
Once you’re on top of the paperwork we can look at developing a simple filing system and suitable storage solutions, so you stay there.
The team can help you organise your digital and physical photos so you can keep your precious memories and discard all those blurry and out of focus pictures.
If you can never find an electronic file or your inbox is groaning, we can help with a digital declutter, clear up all folders and emails, creating a new filing system so you can easily find documents electronically.
Home Staging is the art of styling a property to sell, or let, to enhance its best features and to limit the impact of any negative features to sell faster and maximise the selling price.
We can help you to make the most of your home before it goes to market, or, if your property isn’t getting many viewings.
Instead of reducing the price, let us help with an objective eye to see where there are areas that may be putting off potential buyers. There are a lot of simple tricks that won’t cost a lot to implement, and we'll consider clutter, layout, lighting, and décor.
Pre-photography styling is staging before the photographer turns up to take photographs for property marketing.
We'll arrive just prior to the photographer and work to style your home quickly with existing items and a handful of extra props, as the photographer goes from room to room. This is a quick work through the whole house to ensure the online images of your house show it in the best light to maximise viewings.
A pre-photography declutter session works with you to advise and assist you in removing personal effects to maximise space. We can help by reorganising or moving furniture and possessions to make the best use of your space, using cost effective storage solutions and identifying any items that could be put into storage to create more space.
We can either provide a written report for you to follow on a room-by-room basis, or work with you in your home to show it at its best. You will be left with a copy of The Home Sorter viewings preparation checklist.
Your outside space is equally important and won’t be forgotten.
And the best thing is, by decluttering now, you reduce the amount of unwanted or unneeded things you take into your new home (and save some money on removals).
This service works equally well for private sales or lettings.
If you’re not selling, or getting the viewings you expected, we can provide a one-off session to look at you home and outdoor space with a fresh pair of eyes and make suggestions that will help your home stand out to potential buyers.

Decluttering is the process of removing and reducing the number of items in your home that do not add value, work or you love. It is the organising of the items left in such a way as to ensure you have the right systems in place in the future to maintain a clutter-free environment.
Home staging is using a professional to assess your home and provide you with suggestions on how to improve the saleability. This can involve removing, adding or re-positioning furniture, changing the decor, altering the furnishings or creating new uses for rooms. It can be done before a property is put on the market, or if it is not attracting the number of viewings it should.
It includes staging a house ready for marketing photography.
And of course, removing the clutter.
That all depends on the area to be decluttered, the number of items, and how quickly you are able to make decisions. We normally recommend a three-hour session first, as we can achieve a lot in that time, and towards the end of that session we can agree our next steps.
Yes, absolutely! All the decisions on what to get rid of are made by you, so you need to be there.
However, for organising after decluttering, and many other services, once we’ve agreed a plan, we can work alone and check in with you periodically.
Not unless you want to. It can be helpful for us to see how you live so we can design systems to help you maintain your clutter free home in the future.
No. You are in complete control and make all the decisions. We will guide and support you in making these decisions, as the only way to really declutter is to let go of some things.
We’ll discuss this as part of our initial consultation. We are able to remove up to 5 bags of clothes / other items suitable for a charity shop or clothes bank.
We're unable to remove rubbish, recycling or other waste.
We can arrange shredding of confidential paperwork at an additional cost.
Our price list sets out the costs per hour or package.
Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel. Our full cancellation policy is set out in our Terms & Conditions.
